THE STUDENT BUDDY SYSTEM
Plan. Track.
Reflect. Improve.
Student Buddy is not a stack of pages to fill perfectly. It is a simple system for knowing what you are doing, how your courses are going, where you need help, and what to do next.
- Plan
- Track
- Notice
- Decide
- Act
- Reflect
01Make it yoursStart with the ownership page.+
Write your name, course or department, school, and semester or session. Then add a quote, sticker, note, or anything else that will make Student Buddy feel like yours—not another assignment.
02Use the Daily PlannerBegin with what needs to happen today.+
Write the date, then use the large left-hand box as a brain dump. Put every task competing for your attention there first. Do not organise it yet; getting it out of your head is the point.
03Choose your prioritiesDecide what would make today productive.+
Move only the most meaningful tasks into My Priorities. Estimate the time each needs, then compare that estimate with reality at the end of the day. You will become a much more realistic planner.
04Give work a timeA task becomes real when it gets a place.+
Move priorities into Today’s Schedule between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM. Add lectures, meetings, meals, exercise and rest too. Leave space—your schedule should guide you, not imprison you.
05Reflect, brieflyNotice the patterns before repeating them.+
At the end of the day, use How was my day? to ask what you accomplished, what distracted you, what you learned, and what you will do differently tomorrow. Three honest sentences are enough.
06Set up your course trackersDo this at the beginning of the semester.+
Create a tracker for each important course. Add its code, title and target grade. Student Buddy becomes an early-warning system when you use the trackers before exam week.
07Leave a message for each courseGive difficult courses the mindset they need.+
Use My quote for this course for a reminder, verse, lecturer insight or small goal. For example: Start early, or I do not need to understand everything immediately—I need to keep working.
08Track as you learnSeparate exposure from understanding.+
For every topic, add the date and a clear topic name. Track personal reading, deadlines, completed work, what you understand and active practice. A blank Understanding box is useful information, not failure.
09Use Course Check-In earlyDo not wait until you are failing.+
Use it after a test, every few weeks, or whenever a course begins feeling difficult. It exists for the moment you realise that something is not working.
10Name the real struggleSpecific problems are easier to solve.+
Instead of I do not understand calculus, write what is actually difficult: I struggle when questions combine chain rule and implicit differentiation. The clearer the problem, the better your next move.
11Turn it into a strategyReplace study harder with a real action.+
Write a strategy you can carry out: attend a tutorial, solve five questions without notes, visit office hours, or start assignments three days early. A plan should tell you what changes next.
12Choose one next actionMake it small and scheduled.+
After a Course Check-In, pick one clear action: Solve questions 1–5 tonight at 7 PM. Then put it into your next Daily Planner as a priority and give it a time.
13Use the pages togetherTrack → notice → decide → schedule → act → reflect.+
When a tracker shows an unticked topic, use Course Check-In to decide what to do. Put that next action in your Daily Planner and schedule it. At night, reflect on whether it happened. That is the Student Buddy system.
14Continue, do not restartConsistency beats perfect pages.+
You will miss days and have chaotic weeks. Do not abandon Student Buddy because you missed three days. Turn to the next page and continue. The goal is better decisions throughout your semester.
